A typical training day with On The Edge will include some element of theory-based classroom training, combined with a significant amount of time spent outdoors.
Whether it’s working with fear and exposure on a rock face, or simply getting some downtime in nature, we can tailor the day to suit your team’s needs.
Simply tell us what you’d like to focus on using some of the ideas below, and we can create a bespoke training itinerary for you and your team.
Meet at pre-arranged starting point (office/ activity centre/ national park).
Introductions and icebreaker, followed by class-based training on developing acceptance and resilience skills. We'll usually work on the theoretical understanding of the skills that we will look to apply more practically later in the day.
Providing trainees with any required equipment, and briefing on the itinerary for the outdoor-based activities. An opportunity to ask any questions, and to practice acceptance of any apprehension or fear of what's to come.
Where the rubber hits the road. Group abseil, focussing on application of resilience skills and fear acceptance; AND/ OR team-based orientation challenge, working on cultural development and communication under stress.
Sit down and reflect on the experience so far. Opportunity for trainees to share their experiences and consolidate any lessons learned, as well as for the trainer to offer feedback.
Get to the campsite and prepare for the night ahead. Put up camp, gather firewood, and prepare evening meal. Cook dinner over the campfire and relax. Eat, drink, chat.
Call it a night and get some sleep away from it all.
No. We’ll work with you to ensure that the selected activities and the level of challenge will be appropriate to you and your team. If a particular activity needs some instruction, we have the skills and training to do that with you directly.
For any of the daytime activities we’ll run for you, we will provide any specialist equipment required (e.g climbing harnesses/ ropes/ compasses etc). We will ask trainees to come wearing appropriate clothing and sensible footwear, but we’ll take care of the rest. The only exception is camping gear: if camping is selected as part of the training, trainees will be required to bring their own tent/sleeping bag.
Ideally we like to work with groups of around 10 people. We find this is the best ratio for operating safely and ensuring the best training experience for all trainees. That said, we can be flexible, and can bring in additional instructors to cater for larger groups.
In short, anywhere! That’s the great thing about our model: we can tailor it to work pretty much wherever you like (within the UK). In an ideal world, we might advise a little bit of travel for a particular activity. For instance, if you want to do some rock-climbing or abseiling, we’re going to need some rock. Equally, for nature therapy, the whole point is getting out of town. However, with that said, if you want to stay in the city, we can work with indoor centres to make it happen.
Nice try! We’d love to be able to post a simple figure on our website. Unfortunately, though, the flexibility of what we offer means that the cost can vary significantly depending on the activities, location, group size and duration. Give us a call or drop us an email with your requirements, and we’ll try to give you a ballpark estimate before we get stuck into the detail.
